SCIENTIFIC NAME: Orectanthe Sceptrum
COMMON NAME: (Rare in cultivation)
PLACE OF ORIGIN: Venezuela
GENERAL INFO: Orectanthe sceptrum is found on the edges surrounding and atop of the summits of the Guayana Shield in Venezuela. A rare offering which serves as a stellar standalone plant or companion to your Heliamphora, Bromeliads or Utricularia! Some Utricularia are often found growing inside of the water filled leaf axils of these interesting and rarely cultivated plants. Shipped un-potted and currently growing in a 70/30 perlite/peat medium.
CULTIVATION REQUIREMENTS:
WATER: Orectanthe typically grow in shrubby, vegetation or rocky areas and marshy zones along streams, ravines and ponds. Fully saturate the medium once a day, paying mind to also saturate the leaves until a bit of water accumulates in the rosette
LIGHT: This species requires full sun or full spectrum LED grow lights for 18 hours a day. Since they are found within the Tepui mountains in Venezuela, you can expect they typically receive maximum amounts of high UV sunlight.
FERTILIZATION: We use MAXSEA brand fertilizer for all carnivorous plants, as these sensitive plants respond very well to this brand. Fertilize Orectanthe by fully saturating the leaves once every 2 weeks in spring and summer, and once a month in winter. Never let fertilizer touch flowers!
